GAINESVILLE, FL - According to a news article posted on alligator.org, a 26-year-old Gainesville man has been arrested after fatally shooting his girlfriend and their baby. The Gainesville Police were able to apprehend and arrest the armed man Friday evening without anyone else being harmed. The suspect is accused of shooting his girlfriend and their 3-month-old baby at a neighbor's home Friday evening.
The suspect is currently booked into and is being held in the Alachua County Jail. The suspect is facing one charge of attempted homicide and two counts of homicide. According to the news report, the Gainesville man received a bond of $1 million, and the suspect has not been able to make his bail bond.
The female victim had two other children with the suspect, a 3-year-old and a 5-year-old, according to the suspect's arrest report. Gainesville police found the two kids who were hiding under a bed in a house located in the general area of the shooting following the suspect's arrest. The Gainesville police did not disclose the name of the victim, and the murder case investigation is ongoing.
According to the report, Gainesville police arrived at the crime scene, which is located in the 2900 block of Northeast 17th Drive. The Gainesville police officers allegedly witnessed the suspect fired a shot at a neighbor. The suspect then dropped his pistol, and he quietly surrendered to the police officers. The police officers stated that the suspect told the officers that he was sorry for what happened, and he asked to place a phone call to the parents of his girlfriend in order to apologize for what he had done.
Neighbors, who witnessed the shooting, stated to the Gainesville police that they witnessed the suspect shoot at his girlfriend several times in their front yard as she held their baby. Neighbors then asserted that the suspect picked up the 3-month-old baby, who was shot, and threw its body by a dog kennel, and then he resumed shooting his girlfriend to death.
The news report states that the suspect was arrested back in 2014 for aggravated battery against his girlfriend. She sustained injuries, including a cut liver and fractured ribs.
