Robert Lee Burton Sr, 48-year-old father of Robert Lee Burton Jr (a man recently convicted of a violent assault crime), was arrested and charged with sexual assault. His arrest came about because of DNA evidence that was collected after his attack on a 37-year-old woman. The case is 26-years old. DNA evidence points towards him sexually assaulting a 37-year-old woman at gunpoint behind the Florida Sands Park in St. Petersburg, Florida in 1993. He denies the evidence and that he was involved in the case. Burton is currently residing in the Pinellas County Jail and being held at a bond of $100,000.

Violence Seems to Run in the Family

Not only is Robert Lee Burton Sr facing charges of violent crimes, his son, Robert Lee Burton Jr has been convicted of a violent crime in the past. Jr stabbed his ex-girlfriend (Melissa Dohme) 32 times. He blamed his crime on an undiagnosed case of bipolar disorder. The judge had none of that and is quoted as saying:

"Whatever drove you that night will never leave you. Not only do you deserve to be punished but the citizens must be protected. Don't understand you, sir. Don't know why you did it but I have to do my job. At this time, I adjudicate you guilty and impose the maximum penalty I can impose, a life sentence. You will spend the rest of your days in prison." - Judege Keith Meyer
