In a horrific incident that occurred on June 11, a South Florida woman was set on fire at a gas station by an ex-lover. According to aCBS12.com news report, the 33-year-old woman was attacked at a 7-Eleven in Boynton Beach where she was meeting her ex-boyfriend to pick up her four-year-old son, with whom she shares custody. The victim explained to a Miami television station that her ex-boyfriend threatened her with a knife, and then poured gasoline over her and her car. The man then chased her around her vehicle before lighting her on fire. Surveillance video shows the man entering the gas station with a gas can, long knife, and an igniter.
The 33-year-old victim ran away frantically after being set on fire and called 9-1-1. The tape, which was recently released, has the victim telling the operator that "”I just called and I had to hang up. He set me on fire! Ok! He set me on fire!”
The attack victim is now recovering from second and third degree burns which are on 10 to 15 percent of her body. She was home two days following the shocking incident recovering, with bandages on her arms, right shoulder, chest, and stomach. The 33-year-old hopes to be able to return to work soon, and stated "I just thank God that I’m alive because, in looking at the picture, I probably shouldn’t be here right now ... I need to stay around. I need to be alive for my kids.”
The ex-boyfriend is now facing criminal charges and has been denied bond on the first-degree attempted murder charge.
